Lake Mburo National Park

This park, 260 kms, is found in Mbarara District, with an altitude range from up to 1828m above sea level. Lake Mburo National Park is named after the lake which falls in this territory.

The attractive acacia-dotted savanna (158 square miles) is home to huge herds of impala, as well as uncommon topi, eland, klipspringer and other antelope.

Other animals found in the park include Zebras, buffaloes, while birds include Crested Francolin, Emerald-spotted Wood Dove, Brown Parrot, Barefaced Go-away bird, Rednecked Spur, common Quails, Black-billed Barbet, Greenwood Hoopoe, Blue-napped Mousebird, Lilac-breasted Roller,African-grey Hornbill, Nubian Woodpecker, Trilling Cisticola, bee-eaters and the cheeky bronze-tailed starling, as well as the majestic crowned crane etc.

Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda’s smallest national park, is situated in Kiruhura district of Western Uganda. It is the only national park that contains an entire lake.

Species

This little park hosts a variety of animals, that is to say 68 mammal species, including a large number of impalas (the antelope from which “Kampala” is named after), zebras Uganda kobs, duikers bushbucks, Ankole cattle topis, buffaloes, leopards, spotted hyenas, waterbucks, warthogs, oribi.

There are 315 bird species, including shoebill stork, red faced barbet, crested crane, papyrus yellow warbler. The vegetation is mainly open Savannah of Acacia trees, Olea and Boscia.

Activities

Launch trip on Lake Mburo, to see hippos, crocodiles, cormorants, herons, fish eagle, pelicans, and many birds’ species. Game drives along the Park to see the animals.

Nature walk and bird watching is done too.
